Its origin:

  1. Divinely inspired: 2 Tim 3:16; Deut. 29:29
  2. Written word of God: Ps. 119
  3. Holy men of God spoke under the power of the Holy Spirit: 2 Pet 1:21; 2 Sam 23:2
  4. God’s speaking in the prophets and in the Son: Heb 1:1-2

Its content:

  1. Truth and Life – John 17:17; 6:63; Acts 5:20

Its inerrancy and authority:

  1. Infallible and inerrant in the original autographs as represented by the best Greek & Hebrew manuscripts – Ps. 19:7-11; John. 17:17
  2. Authority derived from God and not from opinions of men – Isa. 45:23; 2 Pet. 3:16

Its functions:

  1. To bear witness concerning the Lord Jesus: John 5:39
  2. To make man wise unto salvation: 2 Tim 3:15
  3. To lead men unto regeneration: 1 Pet 1:23
  4. To be the spiritual food for the believers: 1 Pet 2:2; Matt 4:4; Jer 15:16a
  5. To be the spiritual enjoyment for the believers: Jer 15:16; Psalms 119:103; 19:10
  6. To illuminate man: Psalms 119:105
  7. To give us hope: Rom 15:4; for our admonition: 1 Cor 10:11; for our teaching, conviction, correction and instruction in righteousness to make us complete and fully equipped for every good work: 2 Tim 3:16-17
